Trip to Holland

I received the VA newsletter today and enjoyed the information submitted by Rick Tullis. The interesting point is that my wife and I had been to Cadzand in May and had a wonderful time. One day while going back to our hotel in Cadzand Bad from Breskens I made a wrong turn. Instead of turning around I continued on and I drove past a sign which indicated that the flower nursery was owned by a Van Aken. I turned around and parked the car and we looked through the gardens and the green houses.

It was very busy with the planting season in full swing. I finally had an opportunity to talk to the owner and he introduced himself as Fred Van Aken. I introduced myself to him and we talked for a short while. I asked about his background, but couldn't link him to the original VA family. He and his family were originally from Rotterdam. I would have liked to have talked to him longer, but he was pleasant, but very busy.

I discovered while in Holland this time that if you are looking for Van Aken families in the phone book, look up Aken Van. With all of the Van families I gather that this makes it easier to locate names.
